Basic qualification

Plant protection products help to protect plants from a wide variety of pests, diseases and weeds. The use of plant protection products is not limited to agriculture; plant protection products can also be an important element in protecting useful and ornamental plants in the garden in the home and allotment area. Before plant protection products can be used, professional users such as farmers and gardeners require a certificate of competence. This can be acquired in two different ways

  • with the successful completion of a relevant apprenticeship (e.g. as a farmer, winegrower or gardener(https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/pflschsachkv_2013/anlage_2.html) or
  • by attending a basic training course. After passing the examination, participants receive a corresponding certificate with which they can apply for a certificate of competence (check card) from the plant protection service responsible for their federal state(https://www.pflanzenschutz-skn.de). It should be noted that no more than 3 years may elapse between passing the examination and applying for the certificate of competence.

A certificate of competence is required for the use of plant protection products in a professional environment. If plant protection products are used in domestic and allotment gardens, users do not need to have a certificate of competence. In this case, the dispensers (e.g. in DIY stores and garden centers) are obliged to inform customers about the correct use of the plant protection product, risks and prohibitions, among other things. For this dispensing of plant protection products, the dispensing persons require a certificate of competence, which can be acquired via our basic training course.
